LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A homicide investigation is underway after one person died after an early morning fire in west Las Vegas.

According to a release, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the 6000 block of Carmen Boulevard, near Jones Avenue and Vegas Drive, after reports of smoke coming from the bedroom window of a home.

When first responders arrived, they forced entry into the house and found one person. The person was taken to medical personnel and pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters contained the blaze, which was declared “all clear” just after 4 a.m.

“NV Energy and Southwest Gas were notified of this incident,” the release said. “The home will require board-up services for at least one door and one garage door.”

Around noon, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials said the death was being investigated as a homicide. The fire remains under investigation.
