LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Nevada Donor Network held a ribbon-cutting Tuesday for its new donor care unit, the first of its kind in the state.
The 6,300-square-foot facility provides a dedicated space for organ and tissue recovery.
The unit will help streamline donor care, preserve hospital resources, and support better outcomes for transplant patients.
Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley said the facility will also help keep families close to home.

“Before I became mayor, I sat on the Nevada Donor Network board. So I’m very, very familiar with what they do. And we’ve been working so hard to develop and create a facility in town so Las Vegans, all of Nevadans, don’t have to leave the state in order to have a transplant. So this is a very exciting day for our community,” Berkley said.
The Nevada Donor Network encourages Nevadans to register as organ and tissue donors.
