LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Electric Daisy Carnival is about a week away, and Metro police said they’re ready for tens of thousands of partygoers at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the festival’s 30th year.
Metro said they expect about 185,000 people per night over three nights, turning the speedway into its own “city.”
Metro starts planning months in advance and will have a “robust” presence in both uniform and plain clothes, working with Insomniac, Strip properties and other first responders. Officers will be watching the roads, parking lots and clubs for DUIs and drug crimes.
They’re also warning festivalgoers about pills and other drugs, saying you may not know what you’re really taking, and medical teams will be ready to respond.

“As we know, a lot of these festivals, or like you said, the clubs at the different hotels come with things like drinking,” said Sergeant Jakob Shallenberger. “And we want to make sure that those folks have a safe way to get to and from the festival. DUIs is obviously something we’re going to be looking out for.
NSP, our partners there on the freeway, are going to be looking out for that. And we want to make sure people have a good time the whole weekend.”
They stressed that neighborhood patrols won’t be affected during the festival.
“Everyone working the event is on their off time,” said Lieutenant Kendall Bell. “So, it’s being reimbursed by Insomniac. So, you will still enjoy the same level of police response in your communities. It will not be diminished whatsoever.”
EDC is set to take place next weekend, May 15 through 17.
New this year is a Thursday night parade that will close the Strip from Resorts World to Sahara, plus parts of Sahara, from about 5 p.m. to midnight.
