LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas police shot and killed a man who was shooting at the public with a semi-automatic shotgun.
Police said the shooting happened Wednesday, just before 12:25 p.m. at Lake Mead Boulevard and Sloan Lane.
The suspect has been identified as Sergio Flores, 43.
Police say he was armed with a semi-automatic shotgun, and he fired nine rounds.
Assistant Sheriff Fred Haas played 911 calls during a briefing on Friday.
“We have a guy sitting at the corner of Lake Mead and Sloan firing a shotgun,” one caller said.
“He’s about to fire again. He’s firing at cars passing on Lake Mead,” another caller said.
“There’s a gentleman dressed in kind of military gear,” a caller said. “He’s got a large shotgun, and he’s shooting at the traffic light controller. So, now the traffic light is out, but now he’s just shooting randomly.”

Haas played surveillance footage that captured Flores. The first video recorded him firing three rounds, and then another three in the second video.

Police say he damaged a nearby electrical box.

Officers shortly arrived. Haas identified the officers involved in the shooting as Marcos Vega, 28; Gianni Rivera, 28; and Jhovany Romo, 33.
The three work under the Community Safety Division for the Northeast Area Command and were armed with rifles.

When officers arrived, two action teams were forced on different sides of the intersection. Officers gave Flores demands to drop the weapon and surrender, but he did not comply.
Officers used a low-lethal shotgun and struck Flores. He fled behind an electrical box and was still armed.

Officers again gave demands for Flores to drop the weapon and surrender, but he did not comply.
Flores told officers they would have to shoot him, according to Haas. He fired toward police, forcing officers to return fire. Vega fired one round, Rivera fired seven rounds, and Romo fired three rounds.

Officers then approached Flores to take him into custody and provided medical aid. Medical personnel arrived, but Flores had died at the scene.
If Flores had survived, he would have faced two counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting officers, and damaging infrastructure using a firearm.
“Officers responded without hesitation and walked toward the gunfire,” Haas said. “We’re extremely thankful that we did not have any citizens or officers injured.”
Haas said this is the 6th officer-involved shooting for LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2026, the third fatal shooting. Last year at this time, Las Vegas police had three police shootings.
Police said the three officers involved had been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Haas said Flores has a previous history with police involving DUI and a domestic violence incident, but there was no arrest for the domestic incident.
