
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas animal shelter said they took in nearly 150 stray pets over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The Animal Foundation said from Friday, July 4 through Monday at 10:30 a.m., the shelter received 145 strays. 94 of them were dogs, according to the shelter.
Over the weekend, 35 pets were reunited with their families. The Animal Foundation broke down the numbers per day:
- July 4, 11 pets were reclaimed
- Saturday, nine pets were reclaimed
- Sunday, 15 pets were reunited with families
109 pets left the shelter either adopted or fostered for the weekend. Exactly 72 were adopted and 37 pets are with foster families, the Animal Foundation said.
As of Monday afternoon, the shelter said 401 animals are available for adoption: 284 dogs, 76 cats, 41 other animals.
