LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Local students were awarded for projects working to make Las Vegas safer for pedestrians.

Local leaders revealed the winners of Ped Safe Vegas’ 17th annual “Save a Life, Win a MacBook” competition. Students across the valley worked on posters with safety messages with the hopes of their design being chosen to go inside valley bus shelters.

High school senior Valente Madueno won the top prize for his design.

“My message is, don’t forget to look both ways. And I cleverly designed it so that as you’re reading the poster, you have to look at both sides of the poster to get the message right,” Madueno said. “I was hoping that clever design would attract people to fully analyze my artwork and really stick that message within their heads.”

For the first time, one of the winners came from outside CCSD, from Faith Lutheran High School.

Some of the other prizes included an iPad and Apple Pencil. Some of the winners will have their artwork featured on a calendar or in a traveling art show.
