LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas valley food bank, Three Square, is looking to squander hunger in our community and made efforts towards that goal Wednesday.
The food bank had their largest backpack stuffing event ever, according to officials.
More than 250 volunteers from Smith’s grocery stores were packing food conveyor belt-style Wednesday afternoon stuffing more than 10,000 backpacks full of shelf-friendly goods for students from 120 CCSD schools to take home during the weekend.
Officials say 4,500 bags of food go out to these schools each week to help families.
According to Three Square, one in six kids are food insecure in southern Nevada. These backpack stuffing events are aimed at alleviating local hunger.
“There’s so many families right now that are in need of a little help,” said Michelle Beck, Chief Development Officer of Three Square Food Bank. “Right not kids have access to food at school, though the breakfast program, the lunch program. this is what will help sustain some of those kids over the weekend to ensure when they show up for school on Monday, they’re ready to learn.”
Three Square is holding several pop-up food distributions now through July including this Saturday, at the LDS churches in both Las Vegas and Henderson.
