LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man armed with a “bladed, edged weapon” have been identified by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of the armed man on Tuesday near Eastern and Sahara avenues around 12:40 a.m. The officers tried to de-escalate the situation through “less lethal options,” but the man refused to drop his weapon.

When the man began to charge at the officers, both officers fired their weapons at him. The man was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.

The officers involved have been identified as Officer Joshua Romanski, 37, and Officer Paul Guerrero, 26, both assigned to LVMPD’s East Community Policing Division, South Central Area Command. Additionally, both have been with LVMPD since 2022.

Both officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident, according to police.
