LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The man accused of opening fire inside a Las Vegas grocery store and killing two last week has pleaded not guilty to related murder charges.

During his initial hearing Monday morning, Alejandro Estrada pleaded not guilty to multiple charges related to the deadly shooting, including two counts of first-degree murder, burglary, and multiple counts of discharging a weapon within a structure.

He also told a judge that he would not be able to afford an attorney and may need a public defender.

Estrada was arrested Tuesday after walking into a Smith’s grocery store on Silverado Ranch Boulevard and Maryland Parkway and opening fire on a couple inside.

Police say the shooting was targeted and the victims have been identified as Amanda and Victor Frias Rosas.

Police say Estrada previously had a relationship with Amanda that ended in 2021 and the two share two children.

Estrada was tackled by two bystanders and held down until police arrived as he attempted to leave the area after the shooting, police add.

The judge ruled that Estrada would remain in custody without bail after he “created an extreme danger, not just to the victims but to everyone at the store.”

The judge also called him a “profound threat to the safety of the community.”

Family members of the victims were also present in court for a second hearing related to the case, focusing on Estrada’s traffic-related charges.

Estrada is due back in court on June 29 at 9:30 a.m.
