LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Golden Knights locked up team captain Mark Stone this week. Stone is the only player to wear the “C” in franchise history.
Stone signed a two-year extension worth $9 million per season prior to Golden Knights camp opening. He is in the final year of his current deal that pays him $9.5 million this season. The new contract keeps Stone in Vegas through the 2028-29 season, when he will be 37 years old.
“Yeah, I’m happy to get it done,” Stone said. “That’s what I was saying, sometimes it can drag out, but it was nice to get it done. Going into the season, I don’t have to worry about it. I don’t have to worry about answering the question throughout the season, so I’m glad it’s over with.”

“Yeah, great news,” Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel said. “Yeah, so happy for him and his family, and for our whole team to be keeping him around, and what that means for the organization. Yeah, pretty great, so well-deserved, and it’s great news for this group.”
Stone addresses retirement speculation
Some think Stone will retire after his contract ends, but Stone said that is not necessarily the case.
“I think I’m going to play more than three years, so I might be in the same situation in three years,” Stone said. “My plan is to retire a Knight, but I hope I can play beyond this. I plan on playing beyond this. Changed a lot of things, whether it’s diet, training, to get myself feeling better. A lot of things can happen in three years, but more focus on this day, and knowing that I’ll be here for at least three years.”
What’s next
The Golden Knights play their first preseason game Saturday night in Ontario, California, against the LA Kings. General manager Kelly McCrimmon confirmed the roster for that game will be mostly younger players. The veterans will stay behind and hold a scrimmage at City National Arena.
