LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Drivers should brace for delays near downtown Las Vegas next week as crews continue to work on the Charleston Boulevard Storm Drain Project.
Beginning Monday, September 21, construction crews will close Commerce Street on the south side of Charleston Boulevard for about four weeks to install underground box culverts as part of the ongoing Charleston Boulevard Storm Drain Project.
According to city officials, work will limit southbound travel daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Charleston Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
Additionally, Commerce Street will temporarily convert to a two-way roadway between California Avenue and the Charleston closure point. Access to all surrounding homes and businesses will remain open throughout construction.
Detours and Alternate Routes
- East/West travel: Drivers are urged to detour via Oakey Boulevard or Bonneville Avenue.
- North/South travel: Use Casino Center Boulevard or Las Vegas Boulevard.
- Northbound option: Main Street is open to northbound drivers following the completion of culvert installations at Main and Charleston.
The storm drain improvements along Charleston Boulevard stretch from Maryland Parkway to Commerce Street and are slated for completion by late 2027.
