LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada added 9,957 active registered voters during May, bringing the total number of active registered voters to 2,071,514, Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar reported Thursday.
The increase represents a 0.48% gain compared to April.
An active registered voter includes any voter who is legally eligible to vote, has registered with their county election official and has not been marked as inactive through regular voter list maintenance. All active registered voters in Nevada receive mail-in ballots for each election unless they opt out.

Inactive voters
The Secretary of State’s Office also provides monthly reports on the number of inactive voters in Nevada. An inactive registered voter is a voter who is registered and legally eligible to vote, but has been flagged through Nevada’s list maintenance processes conducted by the counties.
Inactive registered voters do not receive mail-in ballots for any election, but they remain on the voter rolls for two federal general election cycles, per the National Voter Registration Act and Nevada law, and are still eligible to vote.
Of the 378,285 inactive registered voters in Nevada, 172,234 are nonpartisan (45.53%); 80,589 are Republicans (21.30%); 94,968 are Democrats (25.10%); 17,673 are members of the Independent American Party (4.67%); 4,073 are members of the Libertarian Party of Nevada (1.08%); and 8,748 are members of other minor political parties (2.31%).
A county marks a voter as inactive when the county sends the voter a notice to confirm their address on record and the county does not receive a response from the voter. If a voter does not respond to notice from the county and does not vote for two federal general elections in a row, their registration may be canceled.
