Witness describes the moments after the crash
A woman who witnessed the crash and called 9-1-1 asked not to be identified. She said she and her husband were driving along North Las Vegas Boulevard when the car in front of them struck the child.
“It’s very traumatic. It took me a second to actually get out of the car,” she said.
She said her husband took an older brother — also a young child who had been with the victim — to the children’s home to alert their parents, while she remained at the scene until an ambulance arrived.
According to a newly released arrest report, the two boys had been riding their bikes without adult supervision on Sunday night when the younger boy was struck. The children live at the Silverado Mobile Home Park, approximately one mile from where the incident occurred.
Father unaware of children’s location; mother not living at home
The witness said that when her husband arrived at the home, the father was unaware of the children’s whereabouts.
“When my husband went to the house, the dad thought that they were in the complex of the trailer. And even still, it’s 9:30 at night, sir. Why are the kids not in the house?” she said. “Even if you thought they were in the complex, it’s too late. It’s dangerous out here. And just to not know or to think that your kids are in one place that they’re not- it’s just a really scary thought.”
Police documents reveal that the children’s father, Mark Ecott, did not know where the boys were at the time of the crash. Their mother, Aubrey Lambdin, was not home and told police she had not lived at the residence for several months, according to the report.
Home found filled with trash, animal feces; children went without food
During a home inspection, police said the house was filled with trash and covered in animal feces. The refrigerator was not working, and according to other children living in the home, the kids often went without food.
Police said a total of four children, six cats, four dogs, and a goat were living at the residence.
Parents arrested, court date set for July 2
Following the inspection, police arrested both parents on Monday, June 29. Ecott and Lambdin are each being held at Clark County Detention Center on four counts of felony child abuse.
Both are due in court for their initial appearances on Thursday, July 2.
The witness said the experience has stayed with her.
“I will never be the same. And it makes me want to hold my babies just a little bit closer,” she said.
