LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada is adding a new state park along the Carson River, and the public is invited to help name it.
The park spans four and a half miles of the Carson River Corridor near Carson City. It protects wildlife habitat, sections of the California and Pony Express Trails, and land that once served as a “divorce ranch” in the 1940s — where people would stay for six weeks to establish Nevada residency and obtain a divorce under the state’s lenient laws.
How to participate
Starting Wednesday, the public can go online to suggest names and later vote on the finalists. The naming process is open to individuals, families, community organizations, and visitors who have a connection to Nevada’s public lands, according to Nevada State Parks.
To submit a name, participants can access an interactive map and guide about the park through this online survey. There is no limit to the number of name suggestions an individual may submit. Suggestions will be accepted through July 15, 2026.

What comes next
The official name and park dedication are expected this fall. Public access will expand as planning moves forward.
