LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Some legacy Las Vegas properties have assumed different names over the years.
On Aug. 22, 2014, the Sahara reopened as SLS Las Vegas. The hotel-casino first opened in 1952 and remained a fixture on the Strip until 2011, when it shut down.
New ownership brought not only $415 million in renovations to the property, but also a new name. All its rooms were revamped, new restaurants opened, and the casino received a complete makeover.
At midnight in 2014, the new hotel-casino opened its doors with fireworks and fanfare—but the changes didn’t last. In 2019, the resort-casino changed hands again and underwent another renovation. This time it reemerged with its original name: the Sahara Las Vegas.
