LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Fire departments across Southern Nevada responded to a state mutual aid request Sunday night, deploying a strike team to support the response to the Ward Fire burning in White Pine County.

The Ward Fire is currently burning approximately 9 miles southwest of Ely, Nevada. As of Sunday, the fire has burned 5,717 acres and is 0% contained.

Strike team composition

The strike team is made up of personnel and equipment from four Southern Nevada fire departments:

  • Clark County Fire Department — 2 engines, 1 battalion chief, 1 mechanic, 1 water tender
  • Las Vegas Fire & Rescue — 1 engine, 1 battalion chief
  • North Las Vegas Fire Department — 1 engine, 1 water tender
  • Henderson Fire Department — 1 engine

What crews will do

Crews are expected to arrive on scene around 10 p.m. Sunday, receive a briefing, and begin a structure protection assignment Monday. Personnel are expected to be deployed for up to 14 days.
