LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Videos circulating online of pigeons trapped in a cage on top of an apartment’s carport have caught the attention of the community.
The creator of those videos, a user named “Yoshi,” said the birds were in a cage for days in the sun.
“I know what it’s like to be outside, I’ve been kind of homeless out here for a long time, the sun is a monster,” he said.
After noticing the birds he called the complex who said they’d send maintenance.
“I was keeping track, watching them. I’d call and they’d be like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’ like, ‘yeah, you do, I called yesterday,’” he said.
FOX5 asked the complex about Yoshi’s claims that he called multiple times and the pigeons were not removed.
A spokesperson for the complex said “being that this user is not a resident and not onsite, I would have a hard time understanding how he‘d know that.”
Eventually, Yoshi said he decided to free the birds for himself, ignoring no tampering signs posted on the cages, without fear of repercussions.
“I mean bring it on, at least in jail they’ll feed and water me unlike those pigeons,” Yoshi says.
Yoshi’s decision garnered praise from his online audience.
A spokesperson for the complex said in a statement their “pest control partner utilizes a humane approach to pigeon removal to minimize their impact on our community. Our pest control measures are carried out in accordance with local regulations and industry best practices… Pigeons are known to transmit diseases and can create health and safety hazards. Their droppings can accumulate on sidewalks, patios, and other public areas, posing a risk of contamination and disease transmission. In addition, pigeons can cause damage to buildings and infrastructure, particularly when they nest in attics or other enclosed spaces…”
FOX5 reached out to Clark County Animal Control to ask if they’re involved in the case and have not heard back yet.
