LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A new police report is shedding light on the moments leading up to a hit-and-run that injured a Las Vegas Review-Journal employee last month.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to reports of the crash on April 23 around 7:30 a.m. on St. Louis Avenue and Fremont Street.

Officers immediately located RJ employee Sam Morris, who sustained multiple but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, according to the report.

According to Morris and multiple witnesses, the incident started at the intersection, where Morris was seen arguing with a Hyundai driver, later identified as Eric McDaniels, at a red light.

When the light turned green, Morris entered the intersection in the center lane and McDaniels followed before cutting him off and slamming on the brakes, according to the report.

Witnesses said they saw Morris hit the back of McDaniels’ vehicle before falling onto the roadway, and the driver driving away from the intersection.

Morris was transported immediately to UMC for multiple injuries to his head, arms and legs, as well as a non-life-threatening brain bleed.

Officers later located McDaniels, according to the report, who told officers he went around Morris to pass him, but then saw the cyclist give him the middle finger and throw his water bottle at the car.

McDaniels further claimed that he saw the cyclist fall, but assumed he had lost control of his bike when he threw the water bottle, the report notes.

McDaniels is facing a felony charge for failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning, where he pleaded not guilty.

He is due back in court on May 19.
