LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The City of Henderson is honoring local veterans in a very public way. Forty-three new names have been added to the Veterans Memorial Wall, recognizing men and women who served in wars from Vietnam to the global war on terror.
Veterans reflect on recognition
Army veteran Diana Soriano served 10 years and deployed to Afghanistan, where she lost her fiancé in combat at 20 years old. Soriano said the ceremony is emotional because many veterans struggle with grief and identity after they take off the uniform and do not often feel seen or thanked for their service.
Air Force veteran Daryl Mayfield served two decades around the world, including at Nellis, in Italy and in Korea, helping build munitions and supporting U.S. warfighters.

“It brings chills to me. You don’t find people all the time that say, ‘hey, thank you.’ I’m very proud. This program was just fantastic, and I was proud to have my family here to see me recognized for the service I did,” Mayfield said.
City commits to year-round support
City leaders said the Veterans Memorial Wall is a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made by Henderson families. They said the city will continue to support veterans and their loved ones year-round, not just on Veterans Day.
