LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV Athletics saw 129 student-athletes receive the 2023-24 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award, the conference announced Wednesday.

To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have competed at least two semesters or three quarters at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Three Rebel teams set new records in representatives for their respective programs, including football’s department-best 21 honorees, women’s swimming and diving’s 20 and softball’s 12. Another pair of teams tied their top marks as six women’s golf student-athletes and four men’s golf student-athletes earned the recognition.

Rounding out the Scarlet & Gray list of teams to reach double figures in awardees were women’s soccer with 17, track & field with 14 and baseball with 11. The programs that also had student-athletes garner the award included volleyball with seven honorees, cross country with six, women’s tennis with five, women’s basketball with four and men’s tennis with two.

Overall, 1,510 student-athletes earned the honor, which included 215 individuals who achieved a 4.00 cumulative grade point average over two or more terms. UNLV improved upon its mark of 99 MW Scholar-Athlete Award recipients from last year.

2023-24 ACADEMIC YEAR: The Rebels also had UNLV 167 total student-athletes named to the Academic All-MW Team for the academic year, which increased from last year’s total of 154 honorees. Joining their MW counterparts, UNLV men’s swimming and diving and men’s soccer had eight student-athletes apiece recognized on the Academic All-WAC Team.
