LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas teenager has been accused in a “lone wolf” ISIS terror plot in the Valley.
FOX5 just learned he’s expected to be arraigned on the indictment Wednesday in District Court.
We’re also seeing and hearing from those at the District Attorney’s office, during that indictment return hearing.
The ISIS flags and explosive materials found in teenager, Joshua Robles’ room are one thing. What authorities say they found on his phone, was another, even though investigators say he tried to play it off when questioned about looking at ISIS material.
“He then minimizes it says, ‘oh, you know what? All of the posting online was just me trolling people. I just, you know, like to see what kind of reaction I can get from folks.’”
The reaction the teenager got from authorities, was shock after getting a getting a search warrant for his phone, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney, Michael Dickerson.
“The forensic download of his phone was disturbing to say the least,” Dickerson said. The Chief Deputy District Attorney adds the teenager’s phone was filled with nearly 3,900 problematic video files.
“A large portion of the video files in his phone were ISIS propaganda and ISIS murder or beheading videos.”
Then we learned of Robles’ encounters at school.
Court records already show Robles attempted to “target one or more areas within Clark County, Nevada” by “researching and/or obtaining material,” “in furtherance of committing an act of terrorism, including a floorplan of Chaparral High School.”
But now, we’re hearing from the District Attorney’s office the terror suspect had a checkered past at CCSD.
“Looking at his Clark County School District records, the defendant in March of 2020 multiple times in the early days of March 2020 was reported by, it appears, school staff as well as other students, for making comments about his intent to do a school shooting,” Dickerson said. He goes on to mention authorities found Robles researched the Columbine Massacre on his phone.
We reached out to CCSD about his records, and will update this story when we learn more.
As for what’s next, FOX5 has learned Robles is expected to be arraigned on the indictment tomorrow, where he will likely plead not guilty and have a lawyer appointed.
Then, the DA’s office will likely set a date for a jury trial which could be as soon as 60 days if he decides to invoke his right to a speedy trial.
After hearing the evidence presented, including that the teen had been radicalized and gearing up for a terrorist attack in the valley, an indictment warrant was issued by the judge for Robles with a $1 million bail.
