LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas police joined FOX5 on “Behind the Badge” to announce increased patrols around schools, parks, and other locations frequented by students as spring break begins Friday.
Police are also asking drivers to watch for more children walking and biking during daytime hours.
Metro urged parents to know where their teenagers are and who they are with, use location-sharing when possible, and be cautious of house or hotel parties.
“We always encourage parents to be involved,” said LVMPD Public Information Officer Luis Vidal. “And as parents ourselves, one of the things that we start seeing is teenage kids saying, ‘I want my privacy and I want my space’.”
He continued, “Parents are afraid to be nosy and know what their kids are into and what they’re doing. So it’s very important to share locations, have that open communication, know who are they are with, and ask, ‘Where are you going to be?’”
Officers said party hosts can be held responsible if underage drinking or other illegal activity occur at their residence or venue.
