LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The family of a man killed at a Five Below store Wednesday evening is searching for answers as police continue to hunt for the suspect.
Brandon Lucas, 31, was shot and killed at the store near Lake Mead and Rainbow. Court records show an arrest warrant has been issued for David Nathaniel Vasquez.
“Our family member’s life was taken while at work,” said Shekiera Wright,. Lucas’s cousin. “It shouldn’t be that easy for someone to come in and locate someone and take their life.”

Wright said she has felt grief, confusion and anger since learning about her cousin’s death.
“I locate a few cops and ask where is he. ‘Oh we are working on him. That’s all we can tell you right now,’” Wright said. “That went on for hours. It was horrific.”
What happened
Police say a man walked into the store Wednesday evening asking for Lucas. The two got into a fight, and Lucas was shot and killed.
Police have not said how the two knew each other, but Wright said she believes she knows the motive.
“I don’t think he knew the suspect at all,” Wright said. “I think the suspect is partner of a coworker and I think there was some confusion along the lines of what the relationship with between my cousin and the coworker.”
Police say the suspect ran off.
Wright said the weight of her cousin’s death will only become heavier until Vasquez is found.
“You are trying to mourn and grief and figure out funeral plans but it’s one thing when you are doing that when someone lost their life due to a illness or accident but when someone’s life is taken and you have to deal with the thought and the fact that the person is still at large,” Wright said. “It’s insane.”
Wright had a message for the suspect.
“You were bold enough to do it so be bold enough to live with the aftermath of that,” she said.
The Five Below store was closed the day after the shooting. The company said it will open the store when it feels it is appropriate to do so.
Lucas will be laid to rest next week.
