LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Officers from multiple agencies set out Wednesday morning on a memorial relay run to Carson City to honor Nevada law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

The Law Enforcement Memorial Relay Run, now in its 26th year, covers 434 miles and is scheduled to end April 30 in the state capital.

Runners participate in legs of the relay rather than completing the full route.

Organizers said the event honors the names of fallen officers. This year, Officer Jason Roscow of the North Las Vegas Police Department, who died in the line of duty on Feb. 4, 2025, will be added to the memorial.

“We come back here every year because it’s a chance for us to remind the families that have lost loved ones in the line of duty that we’ve never forgotten them or their families,” said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Undersheriff Andrew Walsh, who led the first leg of the run. “It’s really significant because this year we’re putting Officer Jason Roscow from the North Las Vegas Police Department on the memorial wall of the state and on the memorial wall in Washington, D.C.”

Walsh said the relay also gives police leaders and first responders time to gather, remember fallen officers, and connect with families.

Agencies, including the Nevada Highway Patrol and local departments, are providing support along the route, including water and assistance for runners as temperatures rise.
