LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Southern Nevada Water Authority’s mandatory summer watering schedule will take effect Friday, May 1 and runs through Monday, Aug. 31.
Sprinkler irrigation is prohibited between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the summer months. Watering on Sundays is prohibited. Watering during prohibited hours could result in a water-waste fine.

The schedule comes as water levels at Lake Mead continue to decline. The lake is the source of 90% of the community’s supply. Declining elevations are caused by a warmer, drier winter and reduced snowpack in the Colorado River Basin.
For drip-irrigated trees and plants, the authority recommends a four-day-a-week watering schedule, watering 30 to 90 minutes once per watering day. Grass should be watered with sprinklers for a maximum of 12 minutes per watering day, set in three four-minute cycles spaced one hour apart. Grass can be watered up to six days a week in summer.
