LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 21-year-old man has been identified as the suspect in an officer-involved shooting that took place on Legacy High School’s campus Thursday morning.

Jallel Jenkins-Harris, 21, is facing multiple felonies related to the shooting, according to jail records. Those charges include two counts of attempted murder, assault on a protected person, resisting a public officer, possessing a firearm as a prohibited person, buying or possessing stolen property, attempted home invasion, robbery with a deadly weapon, and possessing a dangerous weapon on school property.

According to North Las Vegas police, the incident began at 10:30 a.m. Thursday after police received reports of a man concealing items inside a store in the 7000 block of North 5th Street, between the 215 beltway and Deer Springs Way.

When officers arrived, the suspect pointed a gun at them before running out of the store and into a neighborhood near Legacy High School police said.

Officers followed after him onto the school’s campus, where the suspect exchanged gunfire with at least one officer.

Legacy High School and the nearby Northeast Career and Technical Academy were placed on lockdown during the incident, police said.

Jenkins-Harris was later found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and taken to UMC Trauma Center, where police say he is stable. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Jenkins-Harris is due before a judge on Saturday, May 16, according to court records.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
