LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Dr. Aury Nagy, a Republican candidate running for Congress in District 3, said he believes his background as a physician gives him an advantage in the race.
Following Dr. Heck’s model
Nagy said the last Republican to win the seat was Dr. Joe Heck, a local physician who was able to move enough votes in the middle to win.
“Since his leadership, there hasn’t been a Republican who’s been able to do that,” Nagy said. “I think the reason is because the Democrats have been very good at convincing the independents in our state that Republicans lack compassion.”
Nagy said it is difficult for Democrats to make that argument against a physician who has devoted his entire life to helping patients.
Border security and election integrity
Nagy said health care is an issue he knows how to fix, but the top concerns for Las Vegas voters are safe and secure elections and a strong border.
“Passing the SAVE Act would be very important because people want to know that their votes count,” Nagy said. “They want to know they actually have a voice in government.”
Fentanyl crisis and affordability
Nagy said securing the border would help stop the fentanyl crisis and maintain low rates of fentanyl deaths. He said reducing illegal immigration would also help reduce prices and improve affordability.
Early voting is open through June 5.
