LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The man accused of injuring a Las Vegas Review-Journal employee in April is scheduled to be released from custody Thursday, according to court records.

Records show Eric McDaniels, 37, was ordered to be released on his own recognizance after a May 21 court appearance in which he pleaded guilty to reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.

He was arrested days after the April 23 crash involving Sam Morris, a Review-Journal employee, who was hospitalized in critical condition following the incident.

According to the arrest report, witnesses said the driver, identified as McDaniels, “slammed on the brakes” before the crash near St. Louis Avenue and Fremont Street.

Morris was taken to UMC with injuries to his head, arms and legs, along with a non-life-threatening brain bleed.

Review-Journal officials said Morris was released from the hospital at the end of April and is recovering at home.

McDaniels is due back in court for sentencing Aug. 20.
