LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Legendary fashion designer Bob Mackie recently passed leaving behind a legacy of entertainment and fashion here in Las Vegas.
He’s known for his work with Cher and Carol Burnett. Even recent celebrities like Zendaya and Sabrina Carpenter have worn him.
His deep ties to Las Vegas are seen in the early fashion of the Las Vegas Showgirl.
Grant Philipo, Curator and CEO at the Las Vegas Showgirl Museum, has the largest Bob Mackie collection in the US.
For him, Mackie’s loss was a tragedy.
“Very devastating because in our industry there are certain people like Pete Menifee and Bob Mackie, all these really phenomenal people that there’s not hardly any of them left.”
With Mackie’s hand in dressing showgirls for famed shows like Jubilee and Hallelujah Hollywood in the early days of Vegas, Philipo says he leaves behind more than just unique sense of glam and fashion.
“Other than the artistry that he created, I think the thing that was greatest about him and the thing that I’ve learned about so many people in this world is that you would think as big and as famous as he was, You’re going to look at people like him and share and all these people and think their talent is just incredible. But then when you realize they were really, really nice people, and they didn’t really have to be, but they were. I think that’s truly his legacy.”
