LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Brightline West, the company working to develop a high-speed rail line connecting Las Vegas to Southern California, told FOX5 Tuesday that it is still finalizing funding for the project.

In March, the company told FOX5 that it was still waiting on a $6 billion federal loan needed to fund the rail line’s construction through the federal Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing program. On Tuesday, the company confirmed it was still working to secure that funding.

Brightline West’s statement to FOX5 read, in part, “This financing effort is not new and has been part of our ongoing discussions regarding the project’s development. We continue to work through the federal financing process and remain focused on advancing the project toward construction.”

No additional updates on construction were available.

This news comes nearly a month after Brightline Florida announced plans to entered a Restructuring Support Agreement with its financial stakeholders.

As for Las Vegas, Brightline West previously told FOX5 that any agreements made for the Florida company would not have any impact on the planned rail line. A spokesperson told FOX5, in part, “Whatever may be happening with Brightline in Florida would not have an impact on Brightline West or our plans for the project.”

The spokesperson added that the two companies are separate and have their own financing and project structure.
