LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Intermountain Health broke ground Monday night on Nevada’s first stand-alone children’s hospital.

Leaders and community members gathered to celebrate the beginning of work on the Felicia and Ben Horowitz Children’s Hospital.

When it opens, the hospital will provide neonatal care, pediatric intensive care and other advanced care. Officials said this will help more families get the care they need without having to travel out of state.

“We’re going to be able to handle more complex care here in the state once this gets up and running, and therefore people won’t have to split between, let’s say, California and our facilities in Utah,” said David Flood, chief development officer at Intermountain Health. “So we’re just delighted to have them stay here. Those complex conditions don’t travel well, so they’re going to be right here with their families, and it’s going to be better for everyone.”

The stand-alone children’s hospital is set to open in 2030.
