LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police are investigating after a pedestrian on a skateboard was critically injured by a pick-up truck in a Wednesday evening crash in the northwest Las Vegas Valley.
Metro officers responded to the area of Deer Springs Way east of Durango Drive at approximately 5:04 p.m. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that a 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling westbound on Deer Springs Way, east of Durango Drive, in the outside travel lane. A pedestrian riding a skateboard was crossing northbound across Deer Springs Way outside of a marked crosswalk in heavy traffic backed up from the intersection with Durango Drive.
A crash occurred when the skateboarder crossed the pickup truck’s travel path in the outside travel lane. The pedestrian was taken to UMC Trauma from the scene by ambulance, with injuries determined to be life-threatening by Trauma Staff.
The pickup truck’s driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, according to police. This crash remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.
