LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Nevada State Police report has provided details on a crash that killed a pedestrian near I-15 and Tropicana last week.

Police responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian at approximately 6:10 p.m. On June 20. According to NSP, a tractor-trailer truck was traveling northbound on I-15 when a pedestrian was seen running northbound in vehicle travel lanes.

Police said that for unknown reasons, the pedestrian attempted to enter behind the truck’s rear cab and in the front area of the trailer while the vehicle was still moving. The pedestrian was struck by both the rear right-side tandem tires and also by the trailer’s right-side trailing tires. 

Police said the crash was reported at 6:13 p.m. at the location of I-15 northbound between Russell and Tropicana.

The driver of the truck was unaware of the pedestrian’s actions and traveled northbound until he was later stopped by law enforcement. The driver provided a statement and cooperated with law enforcement.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Coroner’s Office following next of kin notification.

The investigation is being conducted by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol—Southern Command M.I.R.T (Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team). The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has investigated 33 fatal crashes resulting in 41 fatalities this year.

2024 fatalities data is preliminary and may change/be updated based on final investigation and coroner reports.
