LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Housing developer AMH held an event Tuesday celebrating the expansion of its Blue Vista rental community near Blue Diamond Road and Grand Canyon Drive in the southwest valley.
Leaders said the neighborhood of rental homes is designed to meet growing demand for affordable housing in Southern Nevada.
“The homes here at Blue Vista are roughly 20% to 30% less expensive on a monthly basis versus a very comparable home, same size, same quality nearby,” said AMH chief investment officer Zack Johnson.

Leaders cite barriers to affordable housing
Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones attended the event. He said significant obstacles remain in addressing the valley’s housing crisis.
“We need more land to be developed. It’s really hard to access land here. We need the federal government to release more land so that we can bring that cost of land down and to make sure that our houses are more affordable,” Jones said. “And we need developers to really get different options to provide to homeowners — smaller lot sizes or other options that will allow for everyone to access housing here in Southern Nevada.”
Peter Guzman, president of the Latin Chamber of Commerce of Nevada said housing communities like Blue Vista open up options for people of all income levels, including those who can’t or don’t want to buy a home.
“They, too, deserve to be able to live in a dignified community, a dignified home, raise their children in real neighborhoods with amenities,” said Guzman. “That’s what you have here today.”
The latest additions to the Blue Vista neighborhood include new homes and a swimming pool.
