Golfers react to the closure
Golfers visiting the course in its final days expressed sadness at the news.
“I’m very disappointed because I’m just getting into golf,” one golfer said.
“I really enjoyed this track. It’s sad they’re closing it,” another said.
Social media documents the final days
The closure has drawn attention on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. YouTuber Christopher Petrich visited the course and posted video of its final days.
“I just go to properties that are closing and show people the current events as much as I can,” Petrich said.
Petrich said he has a personal connection to the course.
“About 2018, 2019, me and my daughter used to come here and this is where I actually taught her how to play golf,” Petrich said. “Recently, which was in this last three days, I seen a post on Instagram, and they said that this was closing forever.”
Petrich’s video shows the putting green, some holes, the clubhouse, entrance, parking lot and the driving range, which he says has been overrun by pigeons. They’ve taken over the second floor of the outdoor building and left droppings and there are even a few dead birds. The first floor of the range was open to golfers when he visited and was much cleaner.
As of Saturday, July 11, Petrich’s video had accumulated more than 313,000 views across Instagram and TikTok.
Farewell message from the Golf Club
On its website, Desert Pines Golf Club posted a farewell message: “We are deeply grateful to the thousands of golfers, members, and staff who made Desert Pines a cherished part of the Las Vegas golf scene over the years.”
“Thank you for the memories — it’s been an honor to be your course.”
A groundbreaking date for the affordable housing project has not been announced.
