LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The west side of the Lake Mead Boulevard and Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard intersection, closed to traffic around the clock since July 6 for roadway construction, will remain closed through the weekend.

The east half of the intersection will close beginning at 3 a.m. Monday, July 13, and continue through 9 p.m. Friday, July 17. Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard will remain open with one lane in each direction. Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time, follow all posted detour signs, or use alternate routes. Detour maps are available through the project area map.

Project scope and timeline

The Lake Mead Boulevard complete streets improvement project is a joint effort with North Las Vegas and is expected to continue through fall. Traffic restrictions remain in place on Lake Mead Boulevard from Losee Road to Simmons Street for the duration of the project. Suggested alternate routes include Carey Avenue and Owens/Vegas Drive. Access for local businesses and emergency vehicles will be maintained wherever possible.

Improvements included in the project

The project focuses on roadway and safety improvements, including:

  • Pavement replacement
  • New medians with landscaping and irrigation
  • New traffic signal and Intelligent Traffic System infrastructure
  • Replacement of water pipes
  • Sanitary sewer pipe rehabilitation
  • New signing and roadway striping, including the addition of bike lanes
  • Upgrade of streetlights to LED
  • Upgrades to existing pedestrian crossings and creation of new pedestrian crossings at Lexington and Pink Rose streets
  • New sidewalk ramps
