HENDERSON, Nev. (FOX5) — A Memorial Day ceremony brought veterans, families and neighbors together at Cornerstone Park, where more than 500 American flags honored fallen service members.
The “Field of Honor” ceremony drew community members who stood among the flags, each representing a tribute to those who died serving the country.

City leaders said they want younger residents to understand the significance of the holiday.
“I think it’s really important that children understand that freedom isn’t free, that they are here because of those who went before them, who were willing to pay the ultimate price to ensure that they have the freedoms that they do today and that they understand that that there’s a cost to that,” a city official said.
Henderson is home to more than 25,000 veterans, according to the mayor.
