LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 obtained a warrant from the Clark County School District Police Department for a Henderson assistant principal accused of child sex charges.
FOX5 first reported the arrest Friday. According to Henderson Justice Court records, Dr. Howard Hughes of Del Webb Middle School faces three charges of contacting a minor for sex. The warrant shows an additional three counts for unlawful contact with a child.
Hughes was the latest arrest within the district last week. FOX5 reported three additional arrests:
According to the warrant, there were five different audio recordings of the student’s interactions with Hughes that began October of 2023.
Police said the relationship started because he offered her to “spend time in his office for personal and mental health problems.”
The recordings observed Hughes making inappropriate comments, including “I wish you were an adult already,” the warrant said.
Multiple people identified the voice in the recordings to be Hughes, including Del Webb Middle School’s principal, Heather Mounts. The digital audio recordings were taken on Feb. 13, Feb. 28, and March 5 of this year.
On March 20, CCSDPD said they received information that Hughes left the state. Surveillance at his residence showed no signs of Hughes other than his black Chevrolet parked in his driveway.
Police said Hughes sent a text message to the principal saying he had flown to Texas.
According to the warrant, Hughes faces three counts of contact or attempt to contact a minor by person of authority for purposes of sex and three counts of unlawful contact with a child.
The 61-year-old resigned and will not be allowed on campus, police say. He has been employed since January of 2022.
