LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Lorris Aufill does many loads of laundry a day.

The laundry comes from Southern Nevada residents who find Aufill through an app called Poplin.

Aufill started in 2022 with three orders a week. Now she has anywhere between 10 and 15 orders a day.

With 15 orders a day, Aufill said she is making anywhere from $7,000 to $9,000 a month.

“This is our full-time gig. We are able to stay at home, pay our bills,” Aufill said.

Family effort keeps business running

Aufill said it’s a team effort with the whole family pitching in. Her oldest son does pickups and drop-offs and does a lot of the heavy lifting. Aufill and her wife do a lot of the folding and bagging.

She said most of her clients are everyday people.

“A lot of our clientele are middle-class families. They are a couple, or they have a couple of kids. We have a family with six kids,” Aufill said.

Some businesses also use her to wash bedding.

To keep up with all those orders, she has several washers and dryers going at all times. She buys detergent in bulk.

“A lot of people find laundry one of the biggest hassles as an adult, and for some reason, it’s very calming and therapeutic. You sit there, and you fold the shirts, put on your favorite show, or I’ll listen to a podcast, and I’ll zone out,” Aufill said.

A spokesperson for the app said nationally, they have 115,000 work-from-home laundry professionals.

Aufill said thanks to solar panels, her electricity bill is less than $200 a month.

The Poplin website says pricing starts at $1 a pound in most cities.
