LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Downtown Las Vegas services and businesses prepare for protests throughout the weekend, boarding up windows and doors, modifying hours or preparing to stay open.

City of Las Vegas Councilwoman Nancy Brune explains, City Marshals are working closely with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police to make sure everyone remains safe and peaceful; private security is also monitoring parts of the city.

“We understand these folks are coming to express themselves, but that they do that in a very safe way and refraining from any violence or physical harm. We want to make sure that businesses are protected as well,” Brune said.

Mayor Shelley Berkley posted on X: “I support everyone’s right to protest and peacefully assemble. These are rights and freedoms guaranteed to all citizens under our constitution. However, I ask that all protests be peaceful and lawful. Demonstrators cross the line when they hurt others, damage property or take over our roadways,” her page said.

The Clark County Marriage Bureau announced daily closures from Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th at 4 p.m. A sign outside the Downtown bureau directs couples to the Clark County Government Center, 0.8 miles away on Grand Central Parkway, from 4 p.m. to midnight.

“Flew in from Mexico City today. We’re scheduled to be married, tomorrow, and I have to get the license today. It’s hot, late in the day, very disappointing,” one groom said to FOX5, not expecting the early evening closure downtown.

The Fergusons Downtown complex announced Saturday 4 p.m. closures at all its establishments.

Across Fremont Street, others preemptively boarded up or closed on Friday.

Others like Downtown Vintage Barbershop will remain open as usual. “Hoping it’s a peaceful protest,” one barber said.
