LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas welcomed nearly 3.3 million visitors in April, a slight decline from a year earlier, while convention activity increased, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The LVCVA reported visitor volume of 3,275,100 for the month, down 1.8% year over year. The month’s tourism calendar included major events such as the Sick New World music festival, the NCAA Frozen Four hockey championship, Bruno Mars’ “The Romantic Tour” concerts, and the return of WrestleMania.

According to the report, convention attendance totaled 592,100 in April, up 3.2% compared with the same month last year, driven by recurring shows including the National Association of Broadcasters convention, which drew about 58,000 attendees, and the Google NEXT conference with about 32,000 attendees. The LVCVA also cited the return of rotating conventions such as the Coverings trade show, with about 25,000 attendees.

Hotels posted an overall occupancy rate of 83.1%, down 1.5 percent from last April. Weekend occupancy reached 92.7%, while midweek occupancy was just under 80%, the LVCVA said.

Average daily room rate rose to $190.41, a record for April, and revenue per available room was $158 — the second-highest level ever recorded for the month, according to the LVCVA.
