LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Metro Police Search and Rescue said a stuck climber was rescued on Lone Mountain Monday evening.
Officials said a climber got stuck attempting a solo climb on the southern face of the mountain around 7:30 p.m. They were not injured. When they called 911, LVMPD said they did not think they could hold the position without falling.
Search and Rescue’s AIR1 responded to the scene. Crews rappelled to the victim and put on a harness. They were extracted and transported to an “improvised landing zone” in the park near the equestrian trail parking area.
LVMPD’s Search and Rescue said the victim was inexperienced and unprepared for their outdoor climbing attempt. They did have indoor climbing experience.

“We occasionally see rescues with similar details,” officials said. “If you are inexperienced in outdoor climbing, seek a mentor or guide to safely help you learn those techniques. Do not climb alone and do not climb off route without the appropriate experience and training.”
Search and Rescue officials said crews do not want anyone to get hurt from preventable situations while enjoying Nevada’s outdoors.
