LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The man accused of injuring several flamingos and stealing one from a Las Vegas Strip enclosure made his first in-person court appearance Thursday.
Mitchell Fairbarn is facing animal abuse-related charges in connection to the incident. Fairbarn did not attend previous case hearings after a judge waived his appearance in Justice Court.

Those negotiations appear to be continuing in District Court, according to his attorney. Fairbarn’s attorney requested a delay on his arraignment while she and state prosecutors finalize negotiations.
Fairbarn is a Canadian native who was visiting Las Vegas at the time of the incident. Fairbarn was required by court order to surrender his passport, stay away from the strip, and remain on house arrest with an ankle monitor until the case is resolved. He is also banned from all Caesars properties.
According to an arrest report, Fairbarn was seen on camera cornering several flamingos in an enclosure, before grabbing one and bringing it back to his hotel room.
He would later tell police officers that he was trying to “pop” the Flamingo’s wing back in place before he could return it.
Fairbarn is due back in court on Tuesday, June 23 at 9:30 a.m.
