CARSON CITY, Nev. (FOX5) — Nevada Medicaid has begun mailing notices to affected enrollees about new work requirements that certain adults must meet to keep their health coverage, starting on January 1, 2027, according to state officials.
Letters, text messages and emails will arrive throughout September, and anyone who receives one is urged to read the messages in full and act now to prepare for the changes, according to Nevada Medicaid.
The requirements, established under H.R. 1, the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025, apply to many adults ages 19-64 enrolled in Nevada’s Medicaid expansion population, according to the release.

Starting in January, affected individuals must verify at least 80 hours in one month of qualifying work, job training, education or community service, unless they qualify for an exclusion or exception, according to Nevada Medicaid.
Approximately 250,000 people will receive these letters, though Nevada Medicaid estimates that most people will be excluded or already qualify for the new work requirements, according to the release.
“At Nevada Medicaid, our priority throughout this transition is clear communication,” said Ann Jensen, administrator of the Division of Nevada Medicaid. “Our notices explain who is affected, what qualifies as community engagement, how to report compliance, and how to request an exemption. No one should lose coverage simply because they weren’t aware of the new requirement.”
What officials are urging enrollees to do
Nevada Medicaid is urging anyone who receives the notice to take the following steps, according to the release:
- Read the letter. It explains the new requirement, who it applies to, and what exemptions may be available. Additional information is available at Nevada’s Work Requirements website, nevadamedicaid.nv.gov/WorkRequirements.
- Update contact information. All members, whether or not the new requirement applies to them, should confirm their mailing address, phone number and other details are current with Nevada Medicaid so they receive important renewal and eligibility notices.
- Know your renewal date. This is the date when members will need to meet work requirements, if the changes apply to them.
- Know your rights. Members have a 30-day window to appeal an eligibility decision and should understand which exceptions may apply to their situation.
- Watch for scams. Nevada Medicaid will never ask for payment or sensitive personal information by phone or text. Members who need help should work only with certified Navigators and other trusted, certified community partners listed on the Work Requirements web page.
Current members will see no change in their benefits before their individual renewal date next year, according to Nevada Medicaid.
