LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The officer involved in a weekend shooting has been identified as Officer Alex Pena, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
LVMPD said Officer Pena, 26, has been with the department since 2024 and is assigned to the Tourist Safety Division in the Spring Valley Area Command.
The shooting was reported around 3:30 a.m. Saturday near a wash at Harmon and Arville. Police said an officer on proactive patrol saw a man acting suspiciously and tried to stop him, but the man ran.
During the chase, the suspect pulled out and pointed a gun, prompting the officer to fire. Authorities said the suspect kept running despite being shot and was later taken into custody in a nearby parking lot.

Police said the suspect was wearing body armor and appeared “prepared for an engagement.”
Officer Pena has been placed on routine paid administrative leave while the incident is reviewed.
