LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A small fire reported near trash behind The Degree apartments near UNLV is being investigated as suspected arson, officials said, and it was quickly extinguished Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported in an alleyway north of The Degree Apartment building off South Maryland Parkway at about 10:15 a.m., according to UNLV.
It was put out before it could spread, officials said.
Officials said the Clark County Fire Department responded to reports of black smoke coming from The Degree apartments.

Responding authorities found trash fires that were extinguished, preventing flames from extending to the building.
Clark County officials said the fires were suspected to have been set intentionally.
University Police are working in partnership with the Clark County Fire Department to investigate the incident, UNLV officials said.
According to Clark County officials, UNLVPD apprehended someone, but no arrests have been made.
