LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Kline Veterans Fund opened PILOT at West Las Vegas Library on April 23. The community-based initiative is designed to improve access to critical housing and support services for veterans at no cost.

PILOT (Preventing Instability through Live Outreach & Targeted Support) provides veterans with one-on-one assistance with applications for resource access, navigation and immediate support services at the West Las Vegas Library.

Removing barriers to help

“PILOT is about access,” said Stephanie Helms, executive director of Kline Veterans Fund. “We know that for many veterans, the barrier isn’t whether help exists—it’s how to reach it.”

Helms said the partnership with the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District brings the team directly into the community, removing barriers and making it easier for veterans and their families to get support quickly.

“This program allows us to respond in real time and keep more households safely housed,” Helms said.

Services include rapid-response housing assistance, such as rent, deposit and utility aid, along with connections to food and transportation resources. PILOT services will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the West Las Vegas Library (1861 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) in the Community Resource Center.

Helms joined Library District Executive Director Kelvin Watson at West Las Vegas Library on April 23 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the program’s launch.

“Libraries are trusted community hubs where people can find help, hope, and a path forward,” Watson said. “By partnering with Kline Veterans Fund to bring in-person support to West Las Vegas Library, we’re meeting veterans where they are and making it easier to connect with housing stability and essential resources—at no cost and with dignity.”
