LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released new details regarding a shooting inside a Smith’s grocery store that left two people dead.

It happened on Tuesday, May 12, just before noon in the 9700 block of South Maryland Parkway, near Silverado Ranch.

The suspect was later identified as Alejandro Estrada.

According to court documents, Estrada carried out an alleged targeted attack inside the grocery store.

Surveillance video captured Estrada arriving at the store on foot and walking through the produce area before approaching a man and a woman as they turned into aisle four, where police say he shot the couple multiple times, according to an arrest report.

On Wednesday, FOX5 obtained police body-worn camera footage and 911 calls from the incident.

Two unarmed men tackled Estrada, which ended the rampage.

Darius Alston and Merconie Clark wrestled the gunman to the ground using physical strength alone.

The group can be heard flagging the police officer over yelling, “He’s right here.”

Police said multiple bystanders confronted Estrada near the pharmacy drive-thru, disarmed him, and held him down until officers arrived and took him into custody.

Alarms could be heard on frantic 911 calls that FOX5 received about the incident.

The first 911 caller to police was frantic and could barely get information relayed to dispatch as they sought clarity on the incident.

“Hurry up. I was right by him…it had to be someone shooting. It sounded like someone was shot,” the caller said.

“He’s shooting right now, he’s in the building shooting,” a caller said.

Another 911 caller tells dispatch that police are needed at the scene.

“I need police, I have an active shooter at Smiths on Silverado and Maryland,” the caller said.

Husband and wife Amanda and Victor Frias Rosas were identified as the couple shot and killed.

Police report that Estrada previously had a relationship with Amanda that ended in 2021, and they share two children.

According to court documents, about two weeks before the shooting, Estrada told his roommate that Amanda was taking him to court for child support and that he feared going to jail for not paying.

FOX5 Investigates went through custody records that showed Estrada owed more than $2,800 in child support; he was not paying “consistently,” according to the records. His monthly child support owed was $342.

According to company officials, the Smiths will remain closed until May 27, at 7 a.m.

Estrada has pleaded not guilty to related murder charges. A judge denied bail, ordering Estrada to remain behind bars and calling him an “extreme danger” and a “profound threat” to the community.

He is due back in court June 29 for this case and June 1 for an unrelated traffic case, the same day he was scheduled to appear for his outstanding child support case.

According to the store’s automatic phone message, the store will remain closed until May 27 at 7 a.m.
