LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The valley has already seen some hot temperatures this spring that probably made you crank up your air conditioning.
However, if your AC unit hasn’t been given the “OK” for the summer, you may realize it will cost you as tariffs are impacting prices for imported parts.
FOX5 has learned, tariffs have already affected HVAC companies like Hot Desert Air Conditioning and Cooling Company.
“We are probably down about 25%,” said Chris Wiley, HCAV contractor for Hot Desert Air Conditioning and Cooling Company.
Wiley has seen the cost of tariffs trickling down on his commercial projects.
He tells FOX5 most of his parts and units come from China then manufactured in Mexico before they are brought into the United States.
This results in higher prices, or equipment simply not being available.
“There’s a couple jobs where I don’t have coverage I just have a job, I have a contract, I’m liable, I have to provide the equipment, but I just can’t get it,” Wiley said.
As for homeowners, Wiley suggests now is the time to get your AC units looked at just in case you need a new part of a whole new unit.
“I think there’s going to be a point where there’s no air conditioners available like the common sizes for houses they are not going to be available,” Wiley said.
Which is why homeowner John Faught wanted to stay ahead.
“I’m glad it’s getting done now but and it is now making me think should I be thinking of other things,” Faught said.
“Anybody that thinks differing this problem until later is going to help them, later is going to come and it will still be the same problem,” Wiley said.
Wiley said part of the issue is a lot of new systems changed out the refrigerants which won’t work for older parts.
Wiley also advised if you like to keep the temperature in your house at like 60 degrees, your unit may give out faster than if you kept the average temperature in the 70s.
