LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Two Las Vegas students will be honored as U.S. Presidential Scholars, the U.S. Department of Education announced.
One hundred sixty-one high school seniors were recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields. The Nevada scholars are Roxy D. Jones, a student at Clark High School, and Joshua Park, from West Career and Technical Academy.
“Congratulations to this year’s Presidential Scholars for their remarkable academic, artistic and technical achievements,” said Linda McMahon, U.S. secretary of education. “Out of 3.9 million high school graduates, these 161 students are recognized for their extraordinary performance in their high school careers. I look forward to seeing all they accomplish in their future.”
According to Education Department officials, the program has honored more than 8,600 students since its inception in 1964. Two awards are given to students from each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In addition, students from U.S. families living abroad are selected as U.S. Presidential Scholars.
